Westside reaches Minor finals


The Westside Red Sox of Tuolumne and Standard beat the 49er Indians 7-3 last night at Eproson Field to earn a spot in the championship game of Little League baseball's District 15 Minor Tournament of Champions for ages 9 and 10.

The Sox play the High Sierra Braves of Twain Harte, Soulsbyville and Belleview for the title tonight at 6 at Eproson.

Colton Krieg pitched a six-inning complete game, allowing three hits and one earned run while striking out 15 and walking three. He helped himself at the plate by going 1-for-2 with a walk.

The Sox opened the scoring with five runs in the bottom of the third. The rally included single by Brady Day, a run-scoring single by Alex Kiriluk, an error on a ball hit by Krieg, and a two-run double by Mark Relei.

The other two Red Sox runs came in the fifth, when Day and Chase Twohig walked ahead of a double by Kiriluk.

Kiriluk finished 3-for-3, and Mitch Olson contributed a walk and a run for Westside.

For 49er (Jamestown, Moccasin, Groveland, Don Pedro), Joree Peracca, D.J. Van Brocklin and Jeremiah Baca scored. Peracca walked in the fourth and scored on a single by Van Brocklin, who came on an error. Baca singled and scored in the sixth.

Van Brocklin pitched four innings, striking out nine and giving up three earned runs, and Peracca struck out all three batters she faced in the fifth.
