BEARDSLEY LAKE has been increasing in popularity lately, since the lake is full and launching is easy.

I went down with Bob Post and Sadie (Bob's four-legged fish alarm) and we had a good day, hooking 15 trout and keeping just three with the biggest ( a rainbow) measuring 16 inches. Size F-4 Flatfish lures got the most action.

I went back Saturday with my grandson, Jordan, and his cousin, Josh Gluhan of Watsonville, and they brought three back for dinner. We have been avoiding the use of the "meat line" (flasher and worm combination) and sticking to lures which make releasing easier.

MOST ANGLERS are targeting kokanee salmon at New Melones Reservoir, but Doug Smith of Riverbank caught a 4.4 pound brown trout last week on a pink Hootchie off Glory Hole Point at 70 feet deep.

Glory Hole regulars John Darroch, Rich Kowski, Joe Hallett, among others, had their five-fish limits of kokes last week, but the indication is that they are working a little harder for them (putting in more time on the water). The recent full moon could be a factor.

? Bass anglers are reporting lots of small fish, up to 20 or 30 per day, but big ones are hard to find. One exception was the nine-pounder caught by Alex Harvey near the Stevenot bridge.

? Up at Pinecrest, planted trout are keeping anglers happy and fish in the frying pan. Wednesday, my wife and I took granddaughters Kayleen and Kaethe Olson to the lake and they kept four of the 10 fish they hooked for dinner. Most were caught trolling dodger-worm combos from the surface to 10 feet. Pinecrest float-tubers are doing well early mornings with various sinking flies and bait anglers are picking up fish by anchoring at the inlet or dam.

? Trout plants (Moccasin Creek Fish Hatchery): Beaver Creek, Cherry Lake, Deadman Creek, Herring Creek, Herring Creek Reservoir, Lyons Canal, Lyons Reservoir, Moccasin Creek, Pinecrest Lake, Powerhouse Stream, Stanislaus River (Clark, Middle, North, South forks), Lake Tulloch, Tuolumne River (Middle, North, South forks).
