GYMNAST WINS FIRST TOURNEY

Crystal Hoblitt, an 8-year-old second-grader at Summerville Elementary School, completed her first season of gymnastics competition by taking first place at the May Flower Meet in Davis on May 17.

Crystal, who competes in Level 4 for beginners ages 6 to 9, took first in floor exercise (8.85), tied for first on the uneven parallel bars (9.0), took second on the balance beam (8.8), and was 14th on the vault (8.65) for a winning all-around score of 35.3 out of a possible 40 points.

Parents Cy and Barbara Hobblitt of Tuolumne have driven Crystal to the United States Academy of Elite Gymnastics in Modesto four nights per week for the past 20 months. Before the May Flower meet, Crystal's best finish had been seventh place.
