Cats on all-VOL teams

Sonora High School's Travis Hendrix has been named to the all-Valley Oak League baseball team as an infielder.

The Wildcats' shortstop had a .324 batting average and made 41 putouts in 12 league games.

Senior outfielder Mike Taylor made the second team and senior pitcher Justin Hart was given honorable mention.

Joey Norwood, a junior pitcher from co-champion Oakdale, was named Most Valuable Player. He was 5-1 with a 1.67 earned-run average and also batted .463.

Juniors Tommy Bone and Adam Umberg from Buhach Colony of Atwater which tied for the championship in its first varsity season were named Offensive Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year, respectively. Bone had a .714 slugging percentage and Umberg went 6-1 with a 2.42 ERA.

Softball

Senior shortstop Rachel Wolfe and junior catcher Margaret Hemphill made the all-VOL first team for the Wildcats.

Wolfe hit .340 during league play and Hemphill batted .321.

Manteca senior Sara Cross was named Most Valuable Player and junior Brittney Tachara from co-champion East Union of Manteca was named Most Valuable Pitcher.

Girls' soccer

Defenders Jessica Mullins and Lainey Southard and forward Haley Hohengarten of Sonora were voted onto the all-VOL second team.

Senior Cherie Early, who led Sierra of Manteca to the VOL and Sac-Joaquin Section Division III championships, was chosen as Most Valuable Player.
