Derbies coming up at Pardee, Beardsley

The project Kokanee Fun Fishing Derby at Lake Pardee will be held Saturday, and will offer a day of fishing, giveaways, food, and, of course, fun.

Normally, Project Kokanee events target the landlocked sockeyes, but the Pardee event also has awards for trout. There are separate categories for junior and adults.

The event has plenty of great prizes for participating anglers, but perhaps the most attractive are cash awards for the top ten finishers, starting at $500 for first place.

For information, go online to kokanee.org or call 916-456-1331.

Another trout derby closer to home is the annual Dave Townsend event at Beardsley Lake. This event is attended mostly by a group of area anglers, but is open to anyone interested.

The entry fee is $25 per a two-angler team and cash prizes will be based on the weight of the total catch, which in most cases is the two-person limit of 10 fish. Interested anglers may enter by showing up at the launch ramp at daybreak. For last-minute information, call Townsend at 532-5878.
