Engstrom, Thomson win MLL track titles

Germaine Engstrom and Krystal Thomson won titles for Bret Harte High School yesterday as the Mother Lode League track championships got under way at Dorroh Field.

Engstrom won the girls' triple jump at 35 feet, 9 1/2 inches, while Thomson took the girls' discus throw at 132-11.

Tiana Johnson was second to Engstrom at 34-7 1/2, Shamika Smith was third in the girls' high jump at 4-6, and Sean Ziehlke took fifth in the boys' triple jump at 38-9 1/2.

Those events were held as finals, while most others were held as trials. The meet concludes tomorrow at Dorroh, which field events starting at 3:30 p.m.

Qualifiers advance to the Sub-Section 1 Trials next Wednesday at Modesto Junior College.
