Former Sonorans all-CVC at Merced


Sonora High School products Ricky Pinocchio and Brett Gordon of Merced College have been named to the all-Central Valley Conference baseball team.

Pinocchio, the Blue Devils' sophomore shortstop and leadoff hitter, batted .354 with 10 doubles, two triples, three home runs and 20 runs batted in.

Gordon, a sophomore first baseman, batted .305 with 15

doubles, two triples, five homers and 36 RBIs in the middle of the lineup.

James Smith, a right-handed pitcher from Sonora, made the second team after going 5-3 with a 3.88 earned-run average. He struck out 44 and walked 25 in 60 innings.

Merced went 22-20, including 12-12 in the CVC for a fifth-place finish.
