Bodine tosses no-hitter, Tioga rallies to win

Breanna Bodine pitched a no-hitter yesterday for Tioga High School, which rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a 4-3 non-league softball victory over Stoneridge Christian of Merced at Leon Rose Field in Groveland.

Bodine struck out nine and walked nine, practicing damage control to work her way out of several jams in which Stoneridge could have scored multiple runs. Still, the Timberwolves trailed 3-0 going into their last at-bat.

Singles by Jennifer Flores and Janessa Owens and a walk by Jenny Oliver preceded a run-producing single by Vanessa Gilliam. Emily Lewis knocked in a run, and pinch-hitter Kim Holt did the same for a 3-3 tie. Lindsey Smith chased home the winning run with a grounder to first base.

"This was a big win for us," Tioga coach Jim Bodine said.

The Timberwolves (4-7) play Mountain Valley League opponent Calvary Temple tomorrow in Modesto.
