The Bullfrogs (11-4-4, 7-2-1) suffered a surprising setback in their quest for a Mother Lode League title by dropping a 2-0 decision at Linden yesterday.
"We can look at all the negatives against us (last night), such as it's spring break and the team hasn't worked all week together, or that we had the sun and wind in our face in the first half, making their shots hard to defend ?," Bret Harte coach Jennifer Truman said. "But, despite the two goals, we both looks pretty equal out there."
Linden tallied both goals in a two-minute stretch, starting with a deflected shot that found its way into the net at the 17-minute mark.
Two minutes later, the Lions successfully converted a corner kick that was heavily influenced and aided by the wind, according to Truman.
"Not that it made it any easier to accept as a goal, but the wind was pretty strong, and we did take note during the (frosh-soph) game of how much the ball was affected by the wind."
Bret Harte did manage to get off 14 shots against the Lions, but were unable to convert.
The Frogs will begin the third and final round of MLL play when they host Calaveras at Dorroh Field.
Frosh-SophAriel Fidedly scored the Bret Harte's (12-3-2, 9-0-1) lone goal in a 1-1 tie against Linden.
