SECOND STRAIGHT TIE FOR SUMMERVILLE SOCCER

After opening the season with a streak of 11 straight victories, the Summerville High School girls' soccer team now has a mini-run of two ties in a row.

The Bears (11-0-2, 2-0-2 Mother Lode League) deadlocked 0-0 with Amador (1-2-1 MLL) last night at Thorsted Field in Tuolumne after tying Bret Harte 1-1 on the same turf two nights earlier.

"Amador played a solid defensive game and we didn't execute well offensively," Summerville coach Jim Frazier said. "Our passing wasn't sharp at times, and when it was effective, Amador countered well by getting seven or eight players behind the ball.

"Though we controlled much of the flow of the game, we were unable to crack through."

The Bears had came excruciating close to scoring in the closing minutes, but a sizzling shot by Megan Reynolds nicked the bottom of the crossbar and bounced out.

Amador rarely challenged on offense, and Summerville goalie Kellie Pierce didn't have to make any tough saves.

"Amador's defense deserves credit for holding on to the tie," Frazier said. "This week's results will give us a new challenge to fight harder for the league lead."

The Bears' next game is Tuesday in San Andreas against Calaveras.
