Hot EU softball team whips Cats

The best softball team in the Valley Oak League, East Union of Manteca, rolled into town and rolled right back out again after a 9-1 victory over Sonora High School yesterday at Vikki Wagoner Field.

The perennially powerful Lancers (10-1-1, 2-0 VOL) jumped on Sonora (2-8, 0-1) for eight runs in the first two innings six in the second and coasted behind the two-hit, 12-strikeout pitching of Brittney Tachara.

"I knew we were in trouble by the third batter of the second inning," Sonora coach Nick Parry said.

The Wildcats helped do themselves in by committing 11 errors. Their only hits were a second-inning double by Vanessa Clark, who eventually scored on a wild pitch, and a seventh-inning single by Kayla Brawley.

"At least they didn't shut us out," Parry said.

The Wildcats at home again Tuesday to play Manteca at 3:30 p.m.
