Soccer Bears win MLL opener, 6-0

JACKSON Jordan Vermillion recorded a hat trick and three other Bears scored as the undefeated Summerville High School girls' soccer team opened its Mother Lode League season yesterday with a 6-0 win at Argonaut.

"It was a good showing to start league play," Summerville coach Jim Frazier said. "We passed very well and stayed sharp and focused throughout the game."

Vermillion opened the scoring at the 18-minute mark off a 25-yard pass from Ashley Rice.

Lindsay Vermillion upped Summerville's lead to 2-0 with a header off a corner kick by Megan Reynolds at the 24-minute mark.

Shannon Hayes gave the Bears a 3-0 halftime lead when she took a long sideline pass from Lauren Gianelli and drilled home a shot into the upper left corner of the net at the 35-minute mark.

Jordan Vermillion completed her hat trick with goals at the 43- and 76-minute marks off assists from Reynolds and Lindsay Vermillion.

Reynolds added a goal to her two assists at the 77-minute mark off a pass from Hayes.

Summerville (10-0, 1-0), which has beaten its last three opponents by a combined score of 18-2, will try to continue its impressive run tomorrow night at 7 at Linden.

Frosh-Soph The Bearcubs (5-2-2, 1-0) beat Argonaut 5-2 as Megan Houseberg scored three goals, and K.C. Benner and Kayla Andrade added one goal apiece. Benner also posted two assists, while Tara Lamb and Judea Ezell recorded one each.
