Freshman Kaila Stuhl pitched a no-hitter, getting all 15 outs on strikes for Elliot Christian of Lodi in a 16-0 softball victory over Tioga yesterday at Leon Rose Field in Groveland.

"She was throwing 55 or 60 mph," Tioga coach Jim Bodine said. "We hadn't seen anything that fast before."

Stuhl also led Elliot at the plate with a double, a triple and a home run in four at-bats.

Breanna Bodine pitched for the Timberwolves (2-3, 1-1 MVL), who were playing the first game of a softball-baseball doubleheader (see baseball below).

Both Tioga teams play Stoneridge Christian of Merced tomorrow at the former Castle Air Force Base in Atwater.

The Timberwolves (0-2) committed 10 errors in a 17-1, five-inning loss to Elliot in the nightcap.

Tioga pitchers Anthony Trujillo and Michael Cassidy allowed 18 hits, but just four earned runs thanks to the T-Wolves' woeful defense.

""If we're going to be giving teams three to five extra outs each inning, it's going to be a long season," Tioga coach Clint Maxon said.

Leif Irene's solo home run in the second inning accounted for Tioga's only run.

MOTHER LODE Christian School freshman D.J. Reel raps one of his three hits (he was 3-for-3) during the Cougars' non-league baseball game against Stoneridge Christian of Merced at the Sonora Dome last night. Mother Lode (2-1-1) led 7-6 in the top of the fourth inning when the sprinklers came on, soaking the field and causing the game to be suspended. Play will resume as part of a doubleheader when Mother Lode visits Stoneridge on April 11 in Atwater.
