Reynolds scores four goals for 8-0 soccer Bears


LIVINGSTON Thanks to Megan Reynolds' four goals, the Summerville High School girls' soccer team continued its preseason blitz with a 5-2 victory over Livingston yesterday.

With the victory, the Bears ran their record to 8-0 a first in program history and extended their winning streak to 13 games dating to last season.

Making their start even more impressive ... Summerville has yet to play a home game.

"It was good to break new ground by starting the season 8-0," Summerville coach Jim Frazier said of his team, which has won the last two Sac-Joaquin Section Division III championships. "The team showed character by winning despite a (2 1/2-hour) bus ride, our eighth straight game on the road, missing three starters ?"

Livingston took advantage of Summerville's bus-induced lethargy (an accident held the Bears up in traffic) at the outset by grabbing a 1-0 lead just nine minutes into the game.

Unfortunately for the Wolves, it didn't take the Bears long to shake off the cobwebs.

With Reynolds and Kadi Davies teaming up on goals at the 18- and 21-minute marks, Summerville claimed a 2-1 lead and never looked back.

"I've never seen two goals so identical in such short succession," said Frazier after Davies sent crosses into the center of the field in front of the Livingston net, allowing Reynolds to bounce two headers past the Wolves' goalie.

Livingston gave the Bears a hand early in the second half by putting the ball into its own goal, upping Summerville's lead to 3-1 at the 46-minute mark.

Reynolds capped her four-goal game by scoring off passes from Nichole Caldera at 48 and 62 minutes, lifting the Bears' to a 5-1 lead.

Reynolds and teammate Jordan Vermillion lead Summerville in scoring with 10 and 12 goals, respectively.
