McDonnell two-time first-teamer

Sonora High School senior Tom McDonnell has been named to the all-Valley Oak League first team for the second straight year in boys' basketball.

The 6-foot-7 center averaged 13.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and two blocked shots per game while shooting 55 percent from the field and 74 percent from the free-throw line.

Senior point guard Rob Hoyt made the second team, and also was named to the all-defensive team for the second straight year.

Senior shooting guard Travis Hendrix received an honorable mention.

Sonora (12-14, 6-6 VOL) finished fourth and made the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoffs for the 19th straight year.

Oakdale's 1-2 punch of senior guards, Josh Kitchen and Ryan Stevenson, shared Most Valuable Player honors.
