Sonora High School senior Jessica Peterson has been named the Valley Oak League's Most Valuable Player in girls' basketball.

The 6-foot-1 forward-center averaged 16.6 points and 10.9 rebounds per game while shooting 68 percent from the free-throw line. She scored in double figures in 11 of Sonora's 12 league games and grabbed double-figure rebounds in nine of 12.

Peterson played for the varsity all four years at Sonora and was all-league her sophomore and junior years. The MVP honor is Peterson's second major VOL award this school year, as she also was named MVP in volleyball after leading Sonora to the championship.

The basketball Wildcats (15-10, 9-3 VOL) finished second for the fourth straight year and made the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoffs.

Also earning a VOL honor for Sonora was senior forward Rachel Wolfe, who made the all-defensive team. Among her accomplishments were checking high-scoring Sara Cross of Manteca and Chyanne Jacomini in victories that propelled the Wildcats to an 8-0 VOL start.
