Four Tuolumne County teams are in the Sac-Joaquin Section basketball playoffs, one with a high enough seeding for a first-round home game and one by the skin of its teeth.

The former is the boys' team from Summerville High School, which is the No. 6 seed in Division IV. The Bears (20-7) will play host to No. 11 Mariposa (13-15) at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Summerville gym in Tuolumne. Summerville, the Mother Lode League runner-up, opened the season with a 64-56 victory over the Grizzlies, the Southern League's fourth-place team, Nov. 26 in Mariposa.

In Division III, the Sonora boys (12-13) squeaked in as the 16th and final qualifier. The Wildcats' reward is a road game Wednesday night at 7 against No. 1 Foothill (25-2), which many observers consider to be the best team in the Sacramento area, regardless of school size.

On the girls' side, Sonora (15-9) is No. 11 in Division III and will open on the road tomorrow night at 7 against No. 6 Center of Elverta (16-10). Sonora, the VOL's second-place team, was as high as No. 5 in the power ratings before a late three-game losing streak.

Summerville's girls (12-9) are No. 12 in Division IV and, as such, open up tomorrow at 7 p.m. against No. 5 Orestimba (18-7). The Bears, fourth in the MLL, were scheduled to play the SL runner-up Warriors in December, but the game was canceled because of snow.
