Bret Harte High School peppered Escalon with shots and came away with a 5-1 girls' soccer victory last night at Dorroh Field.
The Bullfrogs (1-0-1) put 19 shots on goal and launched numerous others that weren't within the posts, getting two goals apiece from center forward Natalie Kramer and center midfielder Julie Lauterbach, and one goal from striker Maiyan Orvis.
Kramer and Orvis (assisted by Kramer) gave Bret Harte a 2-0 halftime lead, and Kramer made it 3-0 before Escalon (0-1) got on the board. Lauterbach salted the game away for the Bullfrogs on a penalty kick and a loose-ball rebound.
The passing of Orvis, Kramer and fellow striker Christe Miller kept the offense perking.
"This was an outstanding team effort," Bret Harte coach John Yost said. "The pieces seem to be falling into place. It was exciting for me to watch the girls making the passes, moving to open space, and playing their positions beautifully."
The Bullfrogs' next game is at 3:30 p.m. Friday against Stagg in Stockton.
Frosh-Soph Bret Harte (0-1-1) got a goal from Ariel Fideldy and strong defensive play from Caity Bearner and Jaime Roscelli in a 2-1 loss to Escalon.
