MANTECA Sonora High School's late-season scoring slump continued in a 41-37 girls' basketball loss its third in a row after an 8-0 start in the Valley Oak League to East Union last night.

The Wildcats (14-9, 8-3) have been held to fewer than 40 points in all three of their setbacks.

"When's the last time we got over 40?" Sonora coach Charmon Logan said.

It was 12 days ago, when Sonora won 62-30 at Los Banos. During a five-game stretch that ended that night, the Wildcats averaged an even 50. Between then and last night, they lost 53-39 to VOL champion Sierra of Manteca (19-6, 10-1), and 47-38 to Manteca (19-5, 8-3), which now shares second place with the Wildcats.

Sierra, which was idle last night, clinched the outright title when Sonora fell to East Union (12-12, 7-4).

Forward Rachel Wolfe and guard Haley Hohengarten scored 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the Wildcats, Wolfe knocking down three 3-pointers and Hohengarten two.

Center Jessica Peterson was held to VOL lows of eight points and six rebounds. Hohengarten grabbed seven rebounds to lead Sonora on the boards, where East Union dominated.

BH clinches tie

Bret Harte clinched a share of the Mother Lode League crown with a 62-33 win over Summerville in Angels Camp.

Tawnie Lee scored 26 points and Megan Shires added 10 as the Bullfrogs (17-10, 8-1 MLL) wrapped up home-court advantage for the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV playoffs and set up a de facto MLL championship game with Calaveras (17-8, 7-2 MLL) tomorrow night in San Andreas.

"We came out ready to play and we played hard throughout," Bret Harte coach Mike Lewis said. "Tawnie was on fire, and she rebounded, too. She was very aggressive."
