Lawn watering

vote a TUD fiasco

To the Editor:

I want to thank the TUD board for their recent spineless vote to allow the watering of worthless grass. I am a TUD water user that does not have a lawn but has vegetables and spices that I cultivate. Now, with people being allowed to water nonproductive grass "lawns," I feel that I can expand my garden to include items that I did not plant due to the "severe" water restrictions that we are supposed to be under. I have always subscribed to the "philosophy" that "If it is yellow, let it mellow. If it is brown, flush it down." Apparently all the water conservation methods I have followed over the years are not important in this "drought" to this water company. and, they want to fine me $500 for going over my monthly allotment. I will adjust accordingly.

Fracking will

waste water

To the Editor:

Mr. Mapps Letter to the Editor in Friday's paper was so right on, I just had to write and comment! He so rightfully pointed out that, with our water problems being what they are, millions of gallons of this precious liquid is being irretrievably used up in the process of drilling for oil called fracking. Our politicians know about this and there is not a single one raising this issue. Why is that? Have they sold out to the oil lobby? Mr. Mapps pointed out that our state Senator Berryhill voted in favor of letting the oil companies continue this practice. Apparently, Senator Berryhill has not heard about our water shortage? We need to let our politicians know that we expect some common sense to be used when they are voting on issues that concern us all and we will be voting accordingly! And, in the meantime, we should be letting them know that we demand a ban on the practice of fracking for oil in favor of conserving our precious water. In fact, we should all write them today, as we don't have a drop to waste!
