Goodbyeto creative genius

Stage 3 gave us a Chernobyl lump of coal with their press release of Christmas Eve.

In years past, a great gift from Stage 3 has been Don Bilotti. As artistic director, he drew newbies and long-time thespians from our community to act, design and construct, light, run sound, costume, and gofer. The environment was rich with opportunity to learn, grow, and be part of something magical.

Don is a teacher and a passionate artist. He has moved people to reach inside for resources they didn't know they had and present the results to the rest of us. The transformation of all from day one to final curtain was a thing of beauty.

I am grateful for my experience at Stage 3 - mainly as an audience member, but also as a staff member. It was an education to see Don work. He exposed his heart and soul in order to get the best from others, and they all gave their best to the audience season after season.

Blessings be to Don Bilotti. Try as he might, when the boxes he tried to fit into kept getting smaller by design, the day was bound to come when he could no longer contort to fit. May the memory of the multitude of artists who have gone unsupported, persecuted, and even killed for pursuing their art motivate Don to take some well-deserved rest, and find his bearings. Don's creative genius will need some place to be. We'll wait. We'll help.

Don and Maryann Curmi repeatedly gave their all, and presented great theater in Tuolumne County. The heart and soul that has resonated within us all these years has left the building.
