It's that time of year again

To the Editor:

It's almost Christmas. That's true, but did you know it is also time to spay and neuter those kittens or puppies you got this summer? Typically these marvelous creatures come into heat at about 6 months and I know as responsible owners, you have all set aside monies to take care of your pets. If you forgot, this is a reminder. If you are just going to ignore that fact and let your pet have litters of kittens or puppies and then dump them at the pound or along the road, Shame on you! If you are thinking of getting a pet for Christmas, before you do, think of this. Those animals will live at least 15 years. Fifteen years of shots, worming, cuts, flea products, walking, training, neutering, pet sitters and on and on.

Got a pet? You will need someone to care for them if you go away. Please consider all of this before bringing a pet into your home.

The amount of abandoned pets is astronomical. Cats are dumped like garbage and left for someone else to care for. Innocent pets who only ask for your love. They don't come already house broken, doing tricks, come when called and obey your commands. That is your responsibility!! They will dig, chew, pee, poop everywhere they aren't supposed to. They will jump, scratch and lick. But the fun and the happiness they bring is enormous.

Check out the adult cats at PetSmart. Rescued by the Sonora Cat Rescue and fostered in loving homes, they are now ready for a forever homes. Beautiful, purring, all grown up and waiting for you. Am I bothered by irresponsible pet owners. You bet I am. Love your animals, take care of them, or don't bring them home.
