Roberson family offers thanks

To the Editor:

The Robert Warren Roberson family wishes to express our appreciation for the overwhelming love and support from people who came to visit Bob while in the hospital and for those who brought food, sent cards and flowers, and prayed for Bob and our family.

We wish to thank those who made donations to the Sonora NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) in Bob's honor. And we want to extend our gratitude to family and friends who took part in the celebration of life at Sierra Bible Church and graveside services, as well as for the military honors presentation by the VFW Post 3154 Honor Guard, the U.S. Navy and Sierra Conservation Center.

Our family is deeply comforted by expressions of love from the Sonora community.

Don't pay your bills, it's OK

To the Editor:

Rep. Tom McClintock spoke on the House floor the other day. It was a well-delivered speech full of historical references and great rhetoric. He said that the government can pick and choose which bills it wants to pay and not raise the debt ceiling. What a terrible idea to foist on the American public. What if you or I choose to do the same thing with our budgets? Next month I won't pay my PG&E bill, but I will buy some propane. In December, I won't pay my mortgage or my rent and make minimum payments on my credit cards. Maybe I'll forgo my insurance payment on my car.

We all know what will happen to us if we don't pay our bills; we'll end up living in our cars. I don't want to be in that position and I don't want our government to be there either. A huge number of people have been hurt already by the government shutdown; now our elected representative offers this up as a solution.

Shame on you Rep. McClintock, it's time to put the government back to work and to pay our bills.
