Thank you Tuolumne County

To the Editor:

I'd like to thank Tuolumne County for the tremendous outpouring of support that the American Red Cross Capital Region received during the height of the Rim Fire. The level of generosity from the community was remarkable. It seemed as though everyone had something to offer. Individuals and entire families gave freely of their time. They volunteered at our shelter at the Fairgrounds as well at other organizations that were supporting our relief efforts. We had over 80 people from the area come in during the fire looking for ways to help. This is in addition to the large group of Tuolumne County Red Cross volunteers who were working in the shelter. Local businesses stepped up as well, giving monetary support, catering meals for shelter residents or donating necessary goods and services.

Other non-profit organizations pitched in to help too. The ATCAA food bank graciously offered their expertise in food handling and facility space and coordinated with the Lions Club to ensure that a steady supply of food and drink was available to our clients. County agencies also coordinated with us to ensure that both human and animal needs were met. The list goes on and on.

There isn't enough space to list everyone who gave and everything that was given. It was overwhelming!

I've always been told that every dark cloud has a silver lining. The Rim Fire has taken a terrible toll on this county and its effects will be felt for a long time, but I will never forget the kindness and compassion that it brought out as well. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Retiring doctors will be missed

To the Editor:

Our community wants to say thank you to Dr. James D. Mosson M.D., and Dr. Lynn A. Austin M.D., Ph.D. on their many years of caring for our medical needs, helping us better understand the loss of loved ones, referring us to other medical providers in areas which were not their specialty and always making us feel like they were our friend as well as our physician.

The letter announcing their retirement was sent out Aug. 28th, saying they would be retiring and could see patients till Oct. 1.

However, when their offices were contacted for appointments Sept. 1, they were already unavailable. This caused many concerns with medication refills, orders that they had set up in the upcoming months for tests. The hospital answer seems to be just pick another doctor, and I can say it is not easy since you are waiting in line for just a return call, from the various physicians offices if they have an opening for new patients. This letter certainly has caused many of us confusion about what steps to take next.

We do hope in the coming months when the dust has settled and both doctors have had time to start enjoying their retirement our paths will cross again.

You both will always be a special part of our community for the financial support and various donations you have made to our projects and lives.
