Missing the Willow Springs Market

To the Editor:

So what happened to the Willow Springs Market opened by Julius Flores more than 40 years ago?

It is sorely missed by so many not only in Willow Springs but many others.

I and many others did all our shopping there until the shelves emptied. Now it is five miles up or down the highway.

They kept assuring us that they were not closing and then they closed the doors! No sign, nothing!

Gov't argument on frog issue lacking

To the Editor:

This is response to the letter from Wayne Kirkbride (Aug. 15) regarding the perceived imbalance at Tom McClintock's forum at the fairgrounds on Aug. 6.

The "imbalance" was caused by the lack of facts in the Fish and Game's presentation and by the fact that the government, and it's many bureaucracies, are running amuck and no longer have the faith and confidence of the majority of Americans.

The witnesses that spoke against the critical habitat gave real life examples of what happens when the government comes in and makes all kinds of promises and then proceeds to break every one of them. When the Fish & Game representative was given a chance to rebut the witnesses all she could do was repeat the talking points and government "blah-blah" that she had already stated. Wayne, if you were there, I'm sure you took note of the rolling chuckle that would go through the crowd when these "partyline" answers were given. I felt badly for her; she had nothing!

It was exposed by the witnesses against the proposition that the real reason for the dwindling populations of the frogs and toads was because of predatory fish (introduced by Fish & Game) and a virus. Neither of these would be remedied by the critical habitat designation of 2 million acres of forest land. The Fish & Game had no answer or rebuttal.

As to the critical habitat push being by environmental leftist; McClintock is right. If you'll do your research you'll find that the environmentalist and animal rights extremist are far-left driven
