Bring auto racing to the Mother Lode

To the Editor:

The Mother Lode needs auto racing!

Every city worth its salt has auto racing at its fairground so the families who live there will have something exciting to do on their weekends all summer long.

All the cities on the plains have them - Sacramento, Stockton, etc., etc. Why not us? We're not chopped liver up here in the boondocks are we? Angels Camp fairground would be the perfect (central) place to draw the people from all our little towns and communities don't you think?

Getting one started would be easy. All we have to do is pay a promoter to come up here and show us how it's done. All we need is an on-the-ball CED fair manager who loves giving people a good time, and presto. It's done. It's really that simple. A little grading will build the dirt track, a few venders selling hot dogs and sodas and, yes, beer, for the adults, a set of bleachers, and that's it. Simple and fast, ain't it?

If everybody would tell the fairground manager that this is what you want, we could have ourselves a race track in no time. All we need is a good manager to get this thing going. Now it is up to you Mother Lode. Send a short note, "We want auto racing at the Angels fairground now." Sign it and, maybe, just maybe, they will give us our wishes without undue delay and red tape double talk. Think Big, and don't take no for an answer. The fairground belongs to all of us.

The Frogtown fairgrounds manager can be reached at P.O. Box 489, Angels Camp, CA 95222.

Planners should consider studios

To the Editor:

I am writing to let the planners, etc. know this one thing.

Instead of them building one bedroom apartments, they could easily build some studio apartments.

I'm in my 60s and the last thing I want to do is "clean."

I feel daytime is for living, I clean at night. It would be nice to have "low-income studios" but I understand there is not much money to be made.

Anyway, I thought I'd throw that tidbit out there.
