Hound hunting of bears is unethical

To the Editor,

There is no justification in allowing the "sport" of bear hunting with dogs to continue in the United States.

In recent articles in this paper these "sportsmen" attempt to justify hunting with dogs. This is a cruel and inhumane way of killing an animal.

Saying the bears that get away become afraid of humans is just an excuse for the unethical behavior of some hunters.

The argument that hunting bears with dogs has been allowed for 100 years does not make it right.

Slavery was allowed 100 years ago, should it still be legal? There is no "sport" in using a pack of dogs to tree a bear, walking up to it and shooting it.

Another justification made was that the hunters can select bears by letting go female bears with cubs or undersized bears not allowed to be killed.

The first rule of hunting is if you are not sure what you are shooting then don't shoot it. Another cruelty surrounding this "sport" are the amount of dogs killed or injured while pursuing bears.

And to the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors: How very disappointing that you choose to oppose SB 1221 which would outlaw the use of dogs for bear hunting.

No matter what the revenue loss to the county you decided to choose the almighty dollar over having integrity and ethics.

Shame on you!

When the time comes many voters will remember this!

Remember, there are an equal amount of visitors that spend lots of money in this county to see the beauty and nature that surrounds it including bears.
