Political failure

and a debt crisis

To the Editor,

To set the record straight, so as to correct the deception so many of us walk in, let us go back to January 3, 2007. This is the day Nancy Pelosi began leading the House and Harry Reid, the Senate.

As Ron Patterson said, "Bush was in the White House (the car), but Pelosi and Reid controlled the gas petal and steering wheel." They kept passing continuing resolutions rather than their unbalanced budget. Bush asked Congress 17 times, beginning in 2001 to stop Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to stop Fannie Mae and FreddieMac, because it was financially risky for our economy. Barney Frank blocked any action for the reason of wanting to create the largest number of homeowners we have ever had. As a Senator, our president voted yes on the folly of "everyone gets a loan", including all the large spending bills. Sadly and mistakenly Bush did not veto any of this.

Because of our political failure to protect the people, our children that we claim to love, face a lifetime of paying our debt. According to Investors Business Daily, "our combined U.S. household debt and government debt added more that $30 trillion, or 200 percent of GDP. That works out to $155,000 for every adult of working age.

For our children just entering the workforce at 18, that would be $3,000 a year for the rest of their careers - without interest. This is a good time to urge Americans to support a National Sales Tax, so everyone pays some, and we eliminate the IRS and the expense of all those salaries benefits and retirement.

The Strawberry Fire Protection District would like to thank the community of Strawberry and all of those folks who came to help celebrate the re-opening of the Strawberry Fire Department. To the businesses that helped sponsor our opening - The Strawberry Store, Cold Springs Market and Del Oro Water - a big thanks for your support.

We would also like to thank the previous volunteers and board of directors. Your years of service to this community is to be commended. And most importantly we would like to thank our current volunteer firefighters. Your dedication and time commitment to serving your community is admirable.
