To the Editor:
This June, we will elect two of our four Superior Court Judges. It will have a huge impact on our county legal system. One of the seats will go to either Alex Aretakis or Donald Segerstrom. There are two important questions to ask: Which one will be better able to be a fair, unbiased, neutral judge for our disputes and which one will provide the most service for the taxpayers' dollars?
In my opinion, Alex Aretakis is the better candidate. First, while the Segerstrom family has done some great things for the county, Donald Segerstrom is definitely part of the entrenched "old boy" system, which is a problem when you want to appear before a judge who will view cases without any prior knowledge of the issue or the litigants. Not to mention, Segerstrom is related to half the county in some way. Alex Aretakis grew up in Manteca and has practiced law and has been a Judge Pro Tem in the valley. Second, Donald Segerstrom will not be able to hear many of the cases that will come before the court. He was D.A., which will keep him from hearing many criminal cases, plus, his wide circle of friends, business and family connections will keep him from hearing many civil cases.
Judges are very highly paid. We need to get as much value for that money as possible. We need a judge that can be 100 percent available to do his job. Alex Aretakis, will be able to hear virtually any case that comes before him. Besides, if you vote for Segerstrom, your goose just may be cooked … just ask Harold Plummer!
