Rep. Dan Lungren

and Hetch Hetchy

To the Editor:

Basically I think Dan Lungren does a very good job, but he hit my hot button when he wants to take out Hetch Hetchy Reservoir. It seems every 5 to 10 years someone gets the not very bright idea that the state and San Francisco do not need Hetch Hetchy Reservoir water. We drink it up here in Groveland too. At 75 with several physical problems I do not hike like I used to, but a spring hike across the dam and back to Rancheria Falls was a thrill. The reservoir that supplies water for 7 percent of California's water needs does not impact that enjoyment at all. I really suspect the motive behind these "remove the dam" moves is to woo environmental voters. All it succeeds in doing is wasting $65 million dollars doing another study. Why not save the money and just read the last 10 studies that show it does not make sense to remove this water source and upset some beautiful hiking country?
