Politicians should pay for benefits

To the Editor:

Here is an idea that will save the taxpayers millions and millions of dollars. All politicians make a good, if not great, salary. They also have a job that is theirs for a very, very long time in most cases. So, that being said, they should have to purchase their own health care and retirement plan. I cannot think of one reason this should not happen. It is almost a no fire job with benefits. If there is one politician out there that can't afford it too bad. When they retire they can go on Medicare and Social Security like the rest of us. They don't seem to care if we can't afford health care or retirement. If they can re-write or amend the Constitution they can write in the above!
