Sam Wein

To the Editor:

I was saddened to read Mr. Wein's obituary in the paper, but then was pleasantly surprised to see his column jump out at me the other day and to know that I'll have a few more months of his wonderful findings. I didn't know him personally, but I did call him shortly after his "Nuggets" column started appearing in The Weekender to tell him how very much I enjoyed it. He seemed like a sweet, interesting man and I know he will be sorely missed by many … especially me.

My thanks to the editor who had the foresight to recognize what a gem he had found in Mr. Wein and to bring such enjoyment to all of us who looked forward to reading his column each week.

Twain Harte mountain lion

To the Editor:

I can't say I'm very happy to hear that a mountain lion was captured then killed in Twain Harte. We keep pushing them out then wonder why they keep "bothering" us. I am a firm believer in trapping them and moving them to forestry land. There should be far more land preserves. After all, they were here first.
