Amgen Tour Video

To the Editor:

After reading an editorial encouraging our cities to take advantage this year of our "triple play events" (Roundup, Frog Jumps and Amgen Tour) in May and promote our natural and historic scenery, attractions and recreational opportunities, I went on the Amgen website to find out more about this race. I found out that each host city was allowed to film a short video with a welcome to the tour and highlights of its city. I watched all of the videos from all eight cities and I was so disappointed to see that Sonora's video was really horrible. Bad sound quality, poorly written and missing the opportunity to show the beautiful scenery that may have encouraged visitors to come. Compare ours to the nicely done pieces by every other city and you will see what I mean. And please don't say it's because we are not a big city. Even Mt. Baldy, population 618, managed to showcase their area nicely. I hope I didn't hurt the feelings of anyone involved, but with the economy so difficult right now we can't afford to waste this kind of tourist advertising. Please consider getting some professional production people next time.

Losing a pet

To the Editor:

I wanted to say thanks for the column appearing in the Tuesday, Jan. 3, issue of The Union Democrat dealing with the loss of a pet. It was such a heart warming article and hit really close to home, as I just lost my beloved cat of 15 years to cancer last August. It was the most difficult time I've ever endured leading up to the point I knew was coming. I had to let her go and it has broken my heart. I have had such a time dealing with her loss and this article really helped me know I'm not the only one. I think it also helped me know it's time for me to get another cat that I can give as much love to and receive from. My thanks again to columnist Connie Schultz and to the person responsible for selecting this column for print.
