TUD's rate increase

To the Editor:

I feel the 34 percent increase in our water rates is inappropriate and has very poor timing when families are still struggling to put food on the table. I think nearly everyone has had to take some kind of cut, but not TUD employees.

I feel TUD has taken on many unfunded liabilities (defunct water companies, and large land purchases) and we get to pay for it even though we were not involved in the decision process. When I can't afford something, I wait until I can. Many of the parcels are large and expensive. Why doesn't TUD split the parcels and sell the portions it won't use. When I don't have enough money, I liquidate.

I feel TUD is poorly managed which has caused this shortfall. We need better management as this did not happen overnight. We are also being punished for being too conservative on water use. I feel now TUD has thrown out this big number for a rate increase, but will later go back and lower the number to be the good guys.

Maybe we should occupy TUD?
