Compact florescent

light bulb threat

To the Editor:

See the light. The compact florescent light bulbs are a threat to the environment. These bulbs will go from the garbage to the landfills. What is green about mercury contamination? If one breaks it can become a health hazard. The instructions for cleaning up a broken CFL bulb are like reading the forward of a science fiction novel. When a CFL burns out the horrific odor will continue to increase even after the bulb is removed from the house. Open windows, doors and run a large fan. That will take care of the odor in about 12 hours (depending on the size of the room). I know from experience.

Green money was paid from the stimulus to General Electric. Why? Was it to create thousands of new jobs in the U.S.? No. Was it to increase tax revenues? No. According to reports and admission, GE doesn't pay taxes on its billions. That only leaves campaign donations. In politics green only stands for money. I think the president and every member of congress that is pro-CFL should have to sit in an average sized room with their families with a broken CFL bulb and one that has been forced to burn out. They might reconsider some of their green energy politics. At the very least we would finally find out how fast they can move. Although they stopped the ban on incandescent light bulbs (for now) the newer bulbs don't last very long. Could that be intentional?
