Found items easily returned

To the Editor:

Recently I found a large plastic container in the middle of the road in Sonora. The box contained hundreds of dollars worth of carpenters drilling bits, saw blades, tool bag, and battery pack.

At first I thought about keeping the stuff because the quality of the materials were better than I buy. Fortunately my Christian conscious made me seek the rightful owner.

Pondering who to call, I decided to call the police department. They said bring it right in. Then I remembered The Union Democrat offered free five days of advertising for found merchandise. They took my description and ran the ad. Within two days the rightful owner called to claim the missing items.

Thanks Union Democrat for doing the right thing. This is a great service provided to our wonderful community. Ironically I feel better about returning the stuff than if I would have kept it.

God works in mysterious ways. Merry Christmas.
