Litter and signs

To the editor:

Is it still illegal to litter? If so, why isn't it enforced? When exactly do yard sale signs become litter? Is it the day after the sale hanging on a post? Or a few days later on the ground? Looks trashy to me.

Most signs have an address and arrows to follow. Is it so hard? Start from The Junction light on Tuolumne Road.

Easy enough - I'm sure the county could use the money from the fines to help clean up and fix our roads.

It would be nice if the people that put them up would take them down. But maybe that's asking too much.

Health care reform

To the editor:

The time has come for all of our citizens in the United States to have good, responsible health care insurance. Reform is not a scary proposition. Don't let the insurance companies, the screamers at town hall meetings, talk show hosts and other special interest groups scare you. The proposals on the table insure that your insurance company can't deny you care and drop you if you have a serious illness or for prior conditions. Costs cannot spiral out of control and you can keep your own insurance.

Doctors offer health care for you and your family; insurance companies don't. I hope that the plan in the end will have a public health care option. Many of you have Medicare. That is similar to a public health care option.

According to 2007 data, we have 46 million uninsured Americans. I suspect that number is higher now. If you lose your job or have limited income, you may join this group. It is a scary proposition to not have good health care available to you. It is wrong for us not to insure that all United States citizens have an opportunity to have insurance that works.

The proposed changes will not result in rationing of care, euthanasia or end Medicare. Check out the facts at www.whitehouse.gov/realitycheck/ or www.aarp.org/health/insurance/.

Down the road, it is my hope that we can look at single-payer universal health care. Look into it now so you can be knowledgeable. In the meantime, support the reform effort that will help millions of citizens in our nation receive health care coverage that they have been denied. You wouldn't want less for your family.

Fox propaganda

To the editor:

With regard to the Oct. 20 letter by Bob Beller of Murphys, I would like to set his record straight:

All year, Fox News has worked 24/7 to block President Obama's agenda - repeating lies about "death panels," promoting Tea Party protests, and whipping up fake political scandals.

It is sad that Mr. Beller is taken in by this "news" channel on TV that spouts anti-government propaganda. I urge the readers to stay off Fox News and get a broader view of what is really going on.
