Care won't be the same

To the editor:

In Janet Maffei's Letter July 29th she expressed frustration that Washington's legislators have affordable health-care coverage and yet "feel no urgency to make it available to the rest of Americans." It is interesting to note that Washington's legislators are striving to pass national health care but will not be enrolling. See the American Families Web page at http://www3.capwiz.com/afanet/ home/.

It is a mistake to think that the national health care being debated right now for us as Americans will be the same care our legislators have. Insurance companies may be greedy, but health care decided on by government women and men far removed by education and practice from physicians and medical care providers doesn't necessarily sound better.

Whether it be a prematurely born child, an elderly person in need of chemotherapy, or any medical concern in between, will the dollars be the bottom line? Be informed and stay involved.

Great SRT opening night

We were fortunate to get tickets to Sierra Repertory Theatre's opening night of "Damn Yankees" at The Fallon house in Columbia. Well let me tell you that they have done it AGAIN. It's hard to believe that they can put on such a wonderful production in such a small space. The original "Damn Yankees" production was a Broadway hit in 1955, winning seven Tony awards, and ran for 1,019 performances. The energy of all on this stage was nonstop. Don't miss this one.
