Lawrence Elwood Brown

June 6, 1928 - Aug. 14, 2014

Larry died Thursday at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto after a tragic fall. He was 86 years old.

He is survived by his son, Loring; and grandsons, Aaron and Matthew, of Pleasanton. Also surviving is his partner of 15 years, Shirley Duester, and his dog, Herbie, of Sonora.

He lived a very active life and was an avid gardener, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, travelling and playing cards. He will be remembered as a gentle, strong and loving man. He loved to keep in touch with many hometown buddies in West Virginia and visited every year.

He was a self-taught man who had many jobs in Sonoma where he lived after retiring from the U.S. Air Force. He proudly served with the U.S. Air Force over 20 years and travelled all over the world. His son was born in Africa on one assignment. Upon meeting Shirley he moved to Sonora in 1999. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Shriners, SIR and AFSA.

He was preceded in death by two wives and his sister, Perilee.

Neptune Society will be attending to the cremation.

There will be a memorial service held in West Virginia at a later date. There will be no service in Sonora.
