Mickie Owen passed away on Aug. 16, 2014, at the age of 79 after a valiant battle with cancer.
She was born in Sapulpa, Okla. She raised her three children in San Luis Obispo and was a resident of Sonora for more than 15 years.
Mickie devoted many years to being a caregiver and was highly regarded by her clients who described her as cheerful, considerate, hardworking and professional.
She is survived by her son, Richard Blackston, of Lodi, daughters, Phyllis "PJ" Jordan, of Herald, and Tina Johns, of Sonora; brother, Daryl Sarina, of Sonora and sister, Cheryl Cicero, of Sonora; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and parents Del and Leona Sarina.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Heuton Memorial Chapel. A graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at San Joaquin National Cemetery, 32053 W. McCabe Road, Santa Nella.
Heuton Memorial Chapel in Sonora is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mary "Elaine" Kunz

Elaine Kunz passed away peacefully at home on Aug. 18 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on April 15, 1927, in Oneonta, Ala., the oldest child of James and Comilla Young.
During the Dust Bowl era, the family headed west to California. With her parents and younger siblings, James, Dora Lee and Helen, they settled first in Greeley Hill. As a teenager, she attended Mariposa High School and later worked at JC Penney and Co. in downtown Sonora.
In 1945, Elaine attended a dance in Modesto and met a handsome sailor on leave. Gilbert Kunz and Elaine were married shortly afterwards. After Gil's return from the South Pacific, (where he served as a U.S. Navy Seabee) they purchased land in Shaws Flat where they built their family home and raised five daughters. Holidays were major events with children of all ages filling the home. Related or not, everyone was welcome.
Elaine was a full-time homemaker with her daughters being "top priority." She was active in parent -teacher organizations and school activities at Columbia Elementary as a constant volunteer. She and her husband were among the founding members of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Sonora with church services held at the Aronos Club on Stewart Street. Following Gilbert's death in 1995, Elaine continued with church activities until her failing health. She appreciated the friendships, care and loving attention received from Pastor Sharp, Vicar Eric and the congregation.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Gilbert Kunz; parents Jim and Comilla Young; brother James Young and her sister, Dora Lee Lewis.
She is survived by her sister Helen Brown, of Missouri; daughters and their spouses, Eleda Carlson and John Gray, Linda and Perry Crauthers, Loretta Weatherill, Gwen and Jim Taylor and Brenda Azevedo; 11 grandchildren and spouses; Gilbert Carlson, Michelle Carlson, Donald Carlson, Master Sgt. James Carpenter (USAF) and Kristine, Mikki and Mike Koepp, Samantha and Ricky Good, Zack and Tonya Taylor, Sabrina Azevedo and Tonya , Deanna Azevedo, Marvin Crauthers and Rene Crauthers; 12 great-grandchildren, Abigail, Ethan, Angel, Michelle, Jordan, Felicity, Savannah, Laney, Keelie, Aaron, Cayden and Zoey; and two great-great-grandchildren, Emily and Kailey.
Elaine is also survived by aunts, Louise Deffenbaugh and Ruby Bucci, as well as her constant companions, Dachshunds Gilby and Sparky.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. A celebration of life potluck will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Kunz's home, 10776 Joaquin Morris Road, in Sonora. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post 3154, 9 N. Lloyd J. Vermillion Jr.

Lloyd J. Vermillion Jr. passed away on July 24, 2014, at his home in Twain Harte at the age of 59.
Lloyd was born on Dec. 10, 1954, to Shirley and Lloyd Vermillion in Richmond, Calif. He grew up in Newark and in 1989 he moved his family to Twain Harte.
Lloyd had worked at Superstore Industries in Lathrop since 1991. He was an avid backpacker and loved hiking the trails in the Emigrant Wilderness. He loved jogging, going to San Francisco Giants games and music, especially classic rock and roll and the band Phish. Most of all he loved his family.
He leaves behind his wife of 21 years, Katy; and his three daughters, Jordan and Lindsay Vermillion and Kelly Black, who all miss him deeply. Lloyd has three sisters, Judy Gauthier, Cheryl Reta and Janice Vermillion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Shirley Vermillion and his son, Jeffrey.
A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, at Eproson Park in Twain Harte.
