Betty (Brabazon) Lipanovich

April 30, 1920 - March 28, 2014

Modesto resident Betty R. (Brabazon Quin) Lipanovich died March 28 She was 93.

Mrs. Lipanovich was born in Oakland on April 30, 1920, and grew up in Moccasin in Tuolumne County. She was a descendant of pioneer families in Calaveras County and Fresno.

Mrs. Lipanovich graduated from Sonora High in 1936 and from U.C. Berkeley in 1941 with a bachelor of arts degree in music. She married Harvey Quin after college and was widowed during World War II. She met husband Roy N. Lipanovich after the war. They married in 1948 and moved to Modesto in 1952, where they raised their family.

She worked at a number of different places in Modesto, including Valley Commercial College, Central Catholic High School and the law firm of Green & Azevedo, before retiring. She loved to garden and read mysteries, and she adored animals, especially dogs.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harvey Quin and Roy N. Lipanovich; parents, Edith A. (Kielbar) and Lynn Owen Brabazon; and sister and brother-in-law, Edith Mae (Brabazon) and John Fletcher.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Marianne Lipanovich and Steve Blair; daughter and son-in-law Donna and Chris Heffernan; grandson and granddaughter-in-law Justin and Shannon Heffernan; grandson Sheldon Heffernan; and great-granddaughter Alaina Heffernan, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Donati ons in her memory may be made to the Optimal Hospice Foundation and the Central Catholic High School (CCHS) Foundation, Sister Irene Library. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Lillian (Brown) Rodgers

Dec. 7, 1922 - March 28, 2014

Longtime resident Lillian Rodgers passed away on March 28 at Meadow View Manor. She was 91 years old. She was born in Selma, Calif.

Mrs. Rodgers spent 85 years in Tuolumne County. She graduated from Summerville High School and went to work for West Side Lumber Company. She also worked as a Tuolumne County Justice Court clerk for 10 years.

Mrs. Rodgers was a member of the Tuolumne Methodist Church, the Rebekahs and VFW Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David (1987); and two sisters, Thera Brown and Marie Brown Claret.

She is survived by her brother, David Brown, of Sonora; sister-in-law, Shirley Brown, of Tuolumne; nephews, Raoul Claret, of Half Moon Bay, Roger Claret, of Pine Bless, Ark., and Ronnie Claret, of Santa Rosa; and nieces Kathy Hankins, of Empire, and Sheila Brown Rios, of Tuolumne.

Visitation and graveside services have been held. Heuton Memorial Chapel handled the arrangements.

Delfino 'Del' Sarina

Dec. 22, 1924 - March 27, 2014

Delfino "Del" Sarina passed away on March 27, 2014. He was 89 years old.

Del was born in Galt, Calif., on Dec. 22, 1924. He grew up on his parents' dairy in French Camp. He served his country in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1945 and flew in B-24 bombers as an armored gunner and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant with an Air Medal in 1945.

Del married his wife, Leona, on June 5, 1947. They had three children. Leona passed away on Sept. 11, 2008. They were married for 61 years.

He started working for PG&E on April 2, 1951, and retired as district electric engineer on March 1, 1986.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Billie (Mickey) Jean Owen, Daryl and Jan Sarina, and Cheryl and Bob Cicero; his siblings, William Sarina, Mario Sarina and Frances Leben; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Del's number one goal was to be a great Christian man and to take care of his family. He served 41 continuous years on the Christian Heights Church board, and before that served on the Assembly of God board in Gustine for nine years. He helped build the churches. Del's favorite Bible verse was Psalms 19:14- "Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer."

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the Heuton Memorial Chapel.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Christian Heights Assembly of God Church with the burial at Mountain Shadow Cemetery immediately to follow.
