Frank Monahan

Feb. 1, 1934 - Feb. 19, 2014

Frank Monahan, of Sonora, passed away peacefully in the Veteran's Hospital in Palo Alto on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, after a short illness. He had just turned 80 years old.

Frank was born Francis Monahan Lawrence to James and Rita Monahan Lawrence on Feb. 1, 1934 in Brandon, Vt.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Hagemeyer, of Sonora; daughters Lisa French (David) of Bethlehem, N.H., and Linda Armijo (Dane) of Tucson, Ariz.; step-daughter Kristina Hagemeyer-Tamanoi (Hirotaka) of Santa Cruz; grandsons David French III, Ian French and James Armijo; sisters Rita Forbush (Clifton) of University Park, Fla., June Brennan of Goodyear, Ariz., and Patricia Clarke (Wayne) of Horsham, Pa.; many nieces, nephews and good friends. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers James and Henry Lawrence.

Frank enjoyed cooking, playing cards with his friends and going to the casino. In his younger years he was an avid golfer and he enjoyed fishing. He will be missed by his family and friends.

Frank was an Army paratrooper in the Korean War. Funeral arrangements were made by the Veteran's Service with the San Jose Funeral Service, He was interred at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella, Calif.

A memorial service will be held for Frank in the Sonora area. The date and time will be announced at a later date.

Bette Miller

Dec. 24, 1929 - Feb. 25, 2014

Bette Miller, a longtime resident of Groveland, entered into God's loving arms on Feb. 25, 2014, in Spokane, Wash. She was born in Bokoshe, Okla., to Hubert and Lorene Mason on Dec. 24, 1929, just missing being a "Christmas Baby" by a few hours.

She moved with her family to Modesto in 1945, where she met and married Loren Miller, the love of her life. After raising three children in the countryside outside of Ceres, they moved to Groveland in 1983. Loren passed away in 2000, and Bette moved to Spokane in May of 2012 to be closer to her son and his family.

Bette was a member of the Big Oak Flat Baptist Church for many years. She especially enjoyed worshipping God, singing hymns and fellowshipping with her brothers and sisters in Christ.

Bette always loved babies and held a special place in her heart for all of her grandchildren.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Vanessa Miller of Spokane; her sister, Elizabeth Marshall of Sonora; four grandchildren, Brandon, Shawn, and Kristen Miller of Spokane and Grant Taylor of Groveland; five great-grandchildren, Cole and Alexi Miller of Spokane and Shawnasee, Alexa and Tiley Taylor of Groveland.

A memorial service will be held at the Big Oak Flat Baptist Church at noon on Saturday, March 22. Pastor James Lowe is officiating.
