Ruth Anna (Howell) Hard Beesley Gabbert

July 14, 1943 - Feb. 27, 2014

Former Tuolumne resident Ruth Anna (Howell) Gabbert died Feb. 27 in Wheat Ridge, Colo., after a long battle with breast cancer. She was 70.

Ruth was born on July 14, 1943 to Rosa and Chester Howell in Bradenton, Fla.

She lived in Tuolumne from 1955 to 1975. She graduated from Summerville Elementary and Summerville High schools. In 1962, she married Hubert Hard in Tuolumne City and enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom. In 1975, she married Ivan Beesley in Reno, Nev., and in 1992 Ruth was married to George Gabbert in Colorado. She was a member of St. John Chrysostom Episcopal Church in Golden, Colo.

Mrs. Gabbert was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Bradley Gerald Hard, in 1988.

She is survived by her brothers and their wives, Tom and Lynn Howell, of Sonora, and Jim and Donna Howell, of Tuolumne; her children, LeAnna Faucett, of Ogallala, Neb., Darla Beirne, of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Brian Hard, of Westminster, Colo., and her eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three nieces and one nephew.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 8, at St. John Chrysostom Episcopal Church, 13151 W. 28th Ave., Golden, Colo.

Rose Cremations Society in Denver is handling the arrangements.

Ricky Roberts

Jan. 2, 1965 - Feb. 16, 2014

Longtime resident Ricky Roberts died Feb. 16 at his auto shop on Mono Way in Sonora. He was 49.

He was born on Jan. 2, 1965 to Donna Burkey at Tuolumne General Hospital. Ms. Burkey raised her son in Sonora.

Mr. Roberts was an Armed Security Guard for 20 years. He was a destruction derby enthusiast and drove the U2 car. He competed in Sonora, Angels Camp, Plymouth and Pleasanton for 30 years.

Ricky became a member of Christian Heights Assembly of God Church as a teenager. He volunteered for 16 years as a member of the Police Associations Citizen's Team, the Police Explorer Program and as the department's volunteer Rangemaster.

Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife Teddi Roberts; son, Ricky Jhonathen Roberts; mother, Donna Burkey; sister, Jessica Castro; three brothers, Darren Burkey, Michael Roberts, Daniel Roberts and nephew, Erick Burkey.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 15 at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds Arena.

March 3, 1936 - March 2, 2014

Born in Kansas City, Mo., Jon grew up in San Jose, Calif., and graduated from Stanford University and Yale Medical School. His post-graduate medical work was done in the neurology department at the University of Virginia and at the NIH. He was Assistant Chief Neurologist at Harbor General Hospital (UCLA) and Assistant Professor of Neurology at UCLA.

He moved to Sonora, Calif., with his first wife Sandy and daughters in 1972 and went into private practice of neurology. He was a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology. In 1982 he moved to Danville, Va., and practiced neurology with his second wife, Della Williams (whom he married in Paris, France) until 1994, when the couple opened a private practice of neurology in Dubai, UAE.

He retired in 2004 to SleepyGoat Farm in Pelham, N.C., where he and Della started an artisan cheese making business. Also, as recently as last week, he periodically accompanied his wife to Roanoke, Va., for her work as a neuro-hospitalist with Carillion Hospitals.

Jon is survived by Della and his two lovely daughters and their husbands, Beth and Roger Bonnet and Kate and Michael McAvoy; his three sisters, Ethel Hassen, Nancy Shilling and Debbie Hammett, who live in Medford, Ore., Mount Vernon, Wash., and Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, respectively; his sister-in-law, Nancy Craig Williams of Danville, Va.; and multiple nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Ella; his father, Dudley Hoy; and his nephew, Michael Dudley Hassen.

Jon died Sunday morning March 2, the day before his 78th birthday, surrounded by his family. Per his wishes, he was buried that night on SleepyGoat Farm. He considered his greatest fortune in life becoming a student of Ali Asghar Maleknia, a Sufi master. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, ICG in Greensboro, or a charity of your choice.

The family will host a special, informal open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 9 at SleepyGoat Farm, 7215 Allison Road, Pelham, N.C., with a special moment of recognition of Jon to occur at 3 p.m. at his graveside.

DONOFRIO - Dominic Donofrio, 77, of Valley Springs, died Feb. 28 at his home. A memorial Mass with Rosary will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, 162 Church Hill Road, San Andreas. A reception will follow at The Pickle Patch in San Andreas. San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
