Arlando Smith Jr.

Feb. 2, 1936 - Feb. 25, 2014

Elmer "Sonny" Arlando Smith Jr. died February 25 at his home.

Sonny was born Feb. 2, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Cliva Iva (Bennett) and Elmer Smith Sr.

Sonny married Roxanne Marsh on March 30, 1979,in Patterson. The marriage was solemnized in the Denver Temple. Sonny was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Sonny had many jobs throughout his life, mailman, truck driver, horse trainer, a chef for the Kansas City Club, gas station attendant,auto repairman, a semi-pro boxer, pro-rodeo cowboy, rancher, and his most rewarding job, a father and grandfather. He enjoyed the outdoors and all it had to offer. He was loved by many and will be missed by family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cliva and Elmer Smith Sr.; former spouse, Delores Smith; sisters Bettie Montero, Pauline Blythe, Dorothy Humphry, Loucille Moarias; brothers Aron Barker, Jimmie Smith; son Muril Smith; daughter Brenda Ansley.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Roxanne Smith, of Modesto; sister Ola Mae Storer, of Apple Valley; nine children; 26 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

A memorial service and burial were held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in San Andreas and at the Double Springs Cemetery, in Valley Springs.

San Andreas Memorial Chapel handled arrangements.

(Vowles) Wilson

Oct. 10, 1925- Feb. 25, 2014

Sonora resident Doris Lilian (Vowles) Wilson died Feb. 25 at her home. She was 88.

Mrs. Wilson was born in Secunderbad, India, daughter of Charles Vowles and Ellen Enos.

She served in the English Army WAC during World War II from 1943-1946.

She married Raddeck Wilson on March 25, 1946.

Mrs. Wilson moved to Sonora in 1946. She worked at Sonora Laundry, Mark's Cleaners, and Howard's Restaurant as a hostess.

Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raddeck Wilson; and sister Eileen Sharrock.

She is survived by children and their spouses, Ellen and Howard Sundborg, of Sonora, and Sharon and Tim Wheat, of Columbia Falls, Montana; grandchildren, Debbie Sundborg, of Sonora, Amy Conway, of Oakdale, Ryan Wheat, of Columbia Falls, Montana, and Jason Wheat, of Columbia Falls; brother Norman Vowles, of Sussex, England; and nephew, Warren Sharrock, of Riverbank.

Donations may be made to Hospice of the Sierra.

No services will be held.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
