Richard Harry McLeod

July 17, 1932 - Feb. 19, 2014

Former Sonora resident Richard Harry McLeod died Feb. 19 at his home in Kingman, Ariz. He was 81.

Mr. McLeod was born in Huntington Park, the son of Robert and Bae McLeod.

Mr. McLeod served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was discharged in April 1954.

He worked for Mobil Oil Refinery in Torrance for 37 years, starting in May 1954.

Mr. McLeod married Barbara Turman on Dec. 9, 1954. They lived in Lakewood from 1962 until 1989, when they moved to Sonora.

Mr. McLeod and his wife attended Sierra Bible Church. He volunteered with the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office Community Service Unit from 1992 until 2011, when he and his wife moved to Kingman.

Mr. McLeod was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara McLeod, of Kingman; daughters, Terri Monteleone, of Victorville, and Jeanna McLeod, of Huntington Beach; grandchildren, Bryon McLeod, of Richmond, Va., Barbara McLeod, of Huntington Beach, and Austin Monteleone, of Hesperia; and four great-grandchildren.

Roger Michael Arbour

Sept. 4 1942 - Feb. 20, 2014

Roger Michael Arbour, of Sheep Ranch, died Feb. 20 at Mark Twain Medical Center. He was 71.

Mr. Arbour was born in Detroit, Mich., to Joseph and Marie Arbour.

He began working at age 11 stocking shelves for a local grocery store. While in high school he worked in the restaurant industry.

He went on to work in the foundry business, starting as a payroll clerk and working his way up to general manager.

In 1980, he bought an American Sunroof franchise and operated it for many years.

In 1972, he met Shelia Lough. They wed in 1974 were married for more than 39 years.

In 1991 the family moved to Calaveras County, where Mr. Arbour retired to help raise his son, Christopher.

He was passionate about his family, politics, boating and guns. He was a lifetime member of the Republican Party and a member in the National Rifle Association.

Mr. Arbour was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ron Arbour; niece, Peggy Arbour; and nephew, Louie Arbour.

He is survived by his wife, Shelia Arbour; his children, Chris Arbour, of Valley Springs, and Shawn Shaw, of Holly, Colo.; grandchildren, Ron and Jade VerDoot; brothers-in-law and their spouses, Michael and Sue Lough, Dennis Lough, Kevin and Jodi Lough, and Tim and Amanda Lough; sister-in-law, Colleen Lough; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at San Andreas Memorial Chapel.
