Norman 'Benny' Benjamin

May 21, 1924 - Feb. 23, 2014

Sonora resident Norman "Benny" Benjamin died Sunday. He was 89.

Mr. Benjamin was born in Baltimore, Md., to Oscar and Mable (Charles) Benjamin.

Mr. Benjamin served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He had a 37-year career working for AT&T.

He and his wife, Naomi, were long-time residents of Fresno.

They enjoyed the Central Coast area and traveled there often with their two children, Carol and Loren.

They moved to the Pismo Beach area in 2000.

They settled in Sonora to be closer to family in 2004.

Mr. Benjamin enjoyed horse pack trips to Kennedy Meadows.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Benjamin; his brother Robert Benjamin; sister Alice Benjamin; and daughter, Carol Sorrenti.

Mr. Benjamin is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Loren and Janine Benjamin, of Sonora; son-in-law, Andy Sorrenti, of Susanville; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

A private service and interment will be held.

Dorothy (McGeoch) Heuton

Sept. 15, 1921 - Feb. 22, 2014

Longtime Sonora resident Dorothy Heuton died Saturday at Country Lane Estates in Sonora. She was 92.

Mrs. Heuton was born in Aurora, Kan., to Helen and Oscar McGeoch.

She met Russell Heuton in Kansas, and they were married in 1943.

Mrs. Heuton owned and operated Heuton Memorial Chapel for 25 years.

She was a past member of Twain Harte Twirlers and Sierra Squares. She was an avid ballroom dancer and she and her husband danced live with Lawrence Welk.

Mrs. Heuton was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Russell Heuton, in 2006.

She is survived by her sons, Danny Heuton and his wife, Janis, both of Yuma, Ariz., and Michael Heuton and his wife, Sharon, of Sonora; her brother, Joe McGeoch, of Kansas; sister, Pearl Mason, of Concordia, Kan.; granddaughters, Erin Koehl and Erin Ewait, both of Sonora; grandson, Frank Davis, of Paso Robles; and great grandchildren, Logan Davis, Avery Davis, Lucy Davis, and Joshua Ewait.

A visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Heuton Memorial Chapel.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday also at Heuton Memorial Chapel.

Amos James

'Mo' Farley

April 14, 1975 - Feb. 20, 2014

Sonora resident Amos James "Mo" Farley died Thursday at Sonora Regional Medical Center's long-term care unit due to complications from multiple sclerosis. He was 38.

Mr. Farley was born in Sonora, the son of Keith and Laura Farley.

Mr. Farley worked in auto repair for four years at the Radiator Doctor.

He enjoyed writing, playing music, rock climbing and four-wheeling. He also volunteered for ATCAA fundraisers and activities.

Mr. Farley was preceded in death by his mother, Laura Farley; and brothers, Seth Farley and Aaron Harris.

He is survived by his children, Nathaniel Farley, of Sonora, and Juan Oliver, of Sonora; father and stepmother, Keith and Lani Farley, of Sonora; grandparents, Allen and Peggy Gensel, of the Bay Area, and Loretta Pascoe, of Winnipeg, Canada; sister and brother-in-law, Hannah and Peter Christiansen, of New Haven, Conn.; and niece, Grace Christiansen, also of New Haven; and ex-wife, Valerie (Oliver) Farley, of Sonora.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, 225 E. Rose St., Sonora.

John Thomas McDonnell

Nov. 12, 1934 - Feb. 20, 2014

Sonora resident John Thomas McDonnell died Feb. 20 at his home. He was 79.

Mr. McDonnell was born in San Francisco, the son of Ann Leary and Thomas McDonnell.

He met his future wife LaVonne Balcom in San Francisco. They were married 54 years.

Mr. McDonnell moved to Sonora in 1980.

He was a realtor for 20 years.

He enjoyed golf, motorcycle riding, camping, reading and online shopping.

Mr. McDonnell was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, LaVonne McDonnell, of Sonora; children, Lori McDonnell, of South Lake Tahoe, Kathleen Rutherford, of Tuolumne, and Thomas McDonnell, of Sonora; brother, Richard Simmons, of San Jose; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Heuton Memorial Chapel.
