Isabel Dora (Atkins) Hargrove

Tuolumne resident Isabel Dora (Atkins) Hargrove died Friday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 101.

Mrs. Hargrove was born in Bishop, Inyo County, the daughter of Susie and William Garrett Atkins. Her family moved by covered wagon to El Centro when she was 10 months old and moved to Chino in 1925.

She graduated from Chino High School in 1931 and married Elmo Hargrove in December 1931. They purchased a 26-acre farm in Chino in 1938.

She was a homemaker and raised two children, Barbara and Bobby.

Mrs. Hargrove and her husband sold their farm and moved to Jamestown in 1952.

She was a member of the Standard Community Church, Creekside Church, and most recently Christian Heritage Church in East Sonora.

Mrs. Hargrove was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Elmo Hargrove, in 1984; brother, Stanley Atkins, in 1984; and sister, Midge McGregor, in 2010; and her parents.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Boot, of Flora Vista, N.M., and Bobby Hargrove, of Jamestown; sisters, Leona Molin, of Tuolumne, and Ruth Monahan, of Sonora; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, 225 E. Rose St., Sonora. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Mountain Shadow Cemetery.
