Donald Voorhees Blackmore

Jamestown resident Donald Voorhees Blackmore died Dec. 31 at his home. He was 89.
Mr. Blackmore was born in El Dorado, Kan., the son of Anna (Locke) and Ernest Blackmore.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1940 to 1960, was a chief parachute rigger and served on the USS Randolph during World War II. He also served on the USS Ranger, as well as in Patuxent River, Md., Pensacola, Fla., San Diego, Barber's Point, Hawaii, and Iwakuni, Japan.
He married Mary Lee Tallchief on Jan. 24, 1946, in Santa Rosa.
After his military career, he worked for the Department of Corrections for about 20 years. He worked at San Quentin before moving to Jamestown in 1963.
Mr. Blackmore was one of the first guards placed at Sierra Conservation Center in 1964, his family said. He retired in the mid-1980s.
He enjoyed fishing.
Mr. Blackmore was preceded in death by his father in 1943; his mother in 1979; all eight of his siblings; and his daughter, Marsha Barajas, in 2010.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Lee Blackmore, of Jamestown; his children, Donald Wayne Blackmore, of Crystal Falls, Geraldine Anne Brooks, of Nevada, and Lawrence Dale Blackmore, of Sonora; grandchildren, Michael Barajas, Lori McNamara, Lonnie Blackmore, Lisa Maillo, Loraine Neves, Evan A. Brooks, Zachary Blackmore and Courtney Blackmore; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
No services are planned. He was interred at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery on Wednesday.

Shirley Mae (Mark) Peterson

Longtime Sonora resident Shirley Mae (Mark) Peterson died Jan. 1 at her home. She was 87.
Mrs. Peterson was born in Newman, the daughter of Chauncey and Emma Mark.
Her family moved to Sonora when she was 12.
She graduated from Sonora High School in 1944.
She married Albert "Bob" Peterson in June 1949.
She spent her entire career working at Marks Cleaners in downtown Sonora, a dry cleaning company founded by her parents. When her parents retired, she and her husband continued to manage it for 10 more years before retiring in the mid-1980s.
Mrs. Peterson enjoyed reading and making hand carved eggs. She also enjoyed the natural beauty of Tuolumne County.
She was a member of Native Daughters of the Golden West.
Mrs. Peterson was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Carl Mark.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Albert "Bob" Peterson, of Sonora; her daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Steve Pearce, of England; granddaughters, Emma and Ellie Pearce, of England; brother, Donald Mark, of Sonora; and one niece and one nephew.
Services have been held.

WILSON - A visitation for Evelyn Faye Wilson Sr., 80, of Wilseyville, who died Jan. 7 in Sacramento, will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday at Angels Memorial Chapel. A burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Buena Vista Cemetery in Murphys. Angels Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
