Brenda Darlene (Powell) Cook

Tuolumne resident Brenda Darlene Cook died Dec. 11 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 63.
Mrs. Cook was born in Watsonville, the daughter of Wayne and Lois Powell.
She graduated from Watsonville High in the late 1960s and married Irving B. Cook in the early 1970s.
She was a homemaker and raised three children, but would also occasionally work retail.
Mrs. Cook moved to Sonora with her family 29 years ago and settled in Tuolumne 23 years ago.
She enjoyed arts and crafts, particularly sewing, decorating and ceramic painting. She also enjoyed cooking.
Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her parents, and by her brother, Bruce Powell.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Irving B. Cook, of Tuolumne; her children and their spouses, Teffeney and Ty Gibney, of Galt, Craig Cook, of Tuolumne, and David and Lisa Cook, of Sonora; brother, Brad Powell and his wife, Pat, of Arizona; grandchildren, Brittany Huff, of South Dakota, Justin Edgmon, of Galt, Kaitlyn Edgmon, of Galt, Ben Cook, of Sonora, and Kaz Gibney, of Sonora; great-granddaughter, Chloe Huff, of South Dakota; and mother-in-law, Maggie Cook, of Sonora.
A viewing will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel, 609 Main St., Watsonville, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m.

Irma Kathryn Vanover

Former Tuolumne County resident Irma Kathryn Vanover died Dec. 11 in Bellingham, Wash. She was 95.
Mrs. Vanover was born on a homestead farm in Cheyenne County, Neb., the seventh of 12 children born to Edward M. and Verda J. (Glassburn) Nelson.
She attended a one-room school through ninth grade and graduated from Sidney High School.
She married James G. Vanover on July 27, 1946, in Denver, Colo.
They were married for 57 years and had three children.
Mrs. Vanover and her husband lived and worked in Nebraska, West Virginia, Oregon and California.
They moved to Sonora in 1968. Her husband worked as a counselor at Sonora High School until retiring in 1982.
She was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Vanover was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Jerry Vanover; brothers, Maurice, Allan, Llewellyn "Red", Delbert, Laverne, Wayne, Herb and Eugene Nelson; and sister, Cressie Witt.
She is survived by her brothers and their spouses, Wilfred and Dorothy Nelson, of Sidney, Neb., and Arleigh "Pete" and Aurleen Nelson, of Loveland, Colo.; her daughters and their husbands, Kathy and Clive Mark, of West Vancouver, British Columbia, and Ladonna and Marty Stroup, of Aldergrove, British Columbia; her granddaughters and their husbands, Erin and Byron Hildebrand, of Langley, British Columbia, and Jolie and Ged Wright, of Langley; and three great-grandsons.
A memorial service was held in Bellingham.

A graveside service will be held in March at Columbia Cemetery.

Cheryl Lynne(Conboy) Woodward

Copperopolis resident Cheryl Lynne (Conboy) Woodward died unexpectedly Sunday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 49.
Mrs. Woodward was born in Tonawanda, N.Y., the daughter of Robert and Ruth Conboy.
She served in the U.S. Navy for nine years. She worked as a military customs inspector and retired in 1992.
She settled in Copperopolis 11 years ago.
Mrs. Woodward enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She also enjoyed arts and crafts, including sewing and crocheting, and participating in veterans events and community and church activities. She was a member of Sonora Baptist Church.
Mrs. Woodward was preceded in death by her father, Robert Conboy, in 2008; and her brother, Mark Conboy, in 2005.
She is survived by her mother, Ruth Baetzold, of South Carolina; children, Shannon Orozco, of Pensacola, Fla., Sarah Lujan, of Copperopolis, and Anthony Woodward, of Oceanside; grandchildren, Micah and Eli Lujan, of Copperopolis; and siblings, Candice Baetzold, of Attica, N.Y., Colleen Conboy, of Brunswick, Ga., Robert Conboy, of San Antonio, Texas, and Dean Conboy, of Buffalo, N.Y.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Sonora Baptist Church, 412 W. Stockton Road, Sonora.
