Anne Catherine(Zimmer) Williams

Aug. 16, 1924 - Nov. 25, 2013

Sonora resident Anne C. (Zimmer) Williams died Nov. 25 at her home. She was 89.

Mrs. Williams was born in Anaheim, the daughter of Harry and Julia Zimmer.

She married Fred Williams in June 19, 1943 in Pomona. They lived in Southern California for several years before settling Newark, in Alameda County, in 1952. They retired to Sonora in 1977.

She was a homemaker and raised two sons, Bill and Steven A. Williams.

Mrs. Williams and her husband ran a square dancing group called the Country Cousins in the Bay Area from the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s.

She was a member of the Tuolumne County Genealogical Society.

Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Williams, in 1989.

She is survived by her sons, Bill Williams, of Lake Oswego, Ore., and Steven A. Williams, of Newark.

No services are planned but a burial was held at Mountain Shadow Cemetery.

Mary (Colbertson) Wilcox

Dec. 20, 1925 - Nov. 29, 2013

Jamestown resident Mary (Colberston) Wilcox died Nov. 29 at Sonora Regional Medical Center. She was 87.

Mrs. Wilcox was born in Bisbee, Ariz. Her family moved to Tuolumne County when she was 13.

She graduated from Sonora High School in 1943. She earned a bachelor's degree from California State University, Stanislaus, before earning a master's degree in biology from the University of the Pacific.

She taught at Curtis Creek Elementary School for 20 years and Columbia Junior College for one year before retiring.

Mrs. Wilcox was a member of the UOP Alumni Association, the California Teachers Association and the Mother Lode chapter of the California Retired Teachers Association.

She enjoyed reading, quilting and gardening.

She was a champion bowler and president of a Sonora women's bowling association.

Mrs. Wilcox was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Alfred Wilcox.

She is survived by her daughter, Beth Schneider, of Castro Valley; her son, Alfred David Wilcox, of Etna, Siskiyou County; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

HARRIS - A celebration of life for David A. Harris, 75, of Mokelumne Hill, who died Nov. 20 at Mark Twain Medical Center, will be held at 11421 Worden Road, Mokelumne Hill. San Andreas Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

HOPWOOD - Betty Hopwood, 76, of Twain Harte, died Friday at Sonora Regional Medical Center. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

VANOVER - Former Sonora resident Irma Kathryn Vanover, 95, of Bellingham, Wash., died Dec. 11. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 858 Smith Road, Bellingham.
